Snow Today . . . Gone Tomorrow

A new season has finally begun here in Terrace.  Over the past couple weeks the sun has been out, which is already better than what our summer consisted of last year.  Snowboarding has been amazing this season, with record snowfall on the hill, and a snowpack of over 5 metres at the top of Shames Mountain.  But as it has stopped snowing, and Shames Mountain had it’s last day of operations for this season, we look to the sun for our entertainment, and joy.

I am the first person to admit that I don’t exercise enough, but as it is getting nicer out, I have noticed me spending more of my free time outside and enjoying this bright light that magically shines down from the heavens.  It was just last week that a bunch of us from our youth group played baseball, and it was beautiful as the sun was setting.  Being still early in spring, however, as soon as the sun went down, it started getting colder.  After playing for a bit, and running around the bases, I realized that snowboarding doesn’t make me nearly as tired as some other sports.  I also realized that me eating McDonald’s on a regular basis makes me feel like vomiting when I play sports such as baseball.  Because of this revelation, I have sworn off McDonald’s for the summer (at least), and have stuck to it for the last week.  Yes, I still eat fast-food, but I am trying to stay away from the things that make me feel horrible when I eat them and then try to participate in sports.

With snowboarding season at Shames now closed, I find myself still wanting to do things outside, which is good.  With summer rapidly approaching, I am finding myself stoked for what is to come, such as camping, a couple planned trips, fishing, maybe hunting, and just relaxing in the sun.  This summer is sure to filled with a lot of fun, and random adventure.  One random activity my roommate came up with was setting up our trampoline the other day.  Yes, it is an exciting venture to have a trampoline to jump on, however, as he (my roommate) doesn’t have a ton of plans for the summer, his plan is to make our trampoline level with our backyard.  That is right!  He/We are going to try and dig a hole big enough to place our trampoline in, and have the bouncing surface level with our backyard.  This will be a fun venture, and a lot of work, and I’m sure some injury of some kind will result, but it’s all in the name of fun.

Summer is also starting to bear its head with projects being completed, and new projects appearing on the horizon.  We have recently installed a new telephone system across the school district, and after two weeks of fixing bugs, people are finally starting to get used to it.  I find it interesting sometimes how hard it can be to be forced to try something new.  And as summer approaches, projects and plans start, as well as the dreading of setting up new computers, and cleaning well over 300 notebooks.

So as winter ends, and spring/summer begins, I am really excited to see what the sum will bring.  It should be a good time with lots of things to do, and lots of good stories.  Hopefully I’ll have time to tell one or two of them to you.

Long Awaited Update

So it’s been a while since my last update.  Well most likely because the novelty of having my own website wore off, and I was just too lazy to update it.  Since I just took a look at it, I realized I should update it.

So there hasn’t been a ton of new stuff happening lately.  Since August, I have moved to a new place (not with my brother or sister-in-law anymore) and have been enjoying a different scenery.  The snow has started to come, and I’m not saying it is staying cause that depends on the day, but it has affected the drive to and from work.  It’s now icy, and cold, so I just have top take my time as to not hit the ditch, or any animals.  I haven’t seen very many animals, but I did almost hit a moose last week.  That was a little freaky.

Besides the snow, I am quite excited for Shames Mountain to open.  It has had a ton of snow, which pushed the opening back a week, but I am stoked to be able to snowboard a ton this year.  This is the first year in a long time that I have a season’s pass, so I am looking forward to regularly visiting the hill on my day off.

Christmas.  Yes it’s almost here, and I am stoked for Christmas, I am also excited for the holidays.  The week before christmas a game which I have been looking forward to for a couple years now, finally hits the digital shelves, and allows everyone to enjoy the world of Star Wars.  The new game is called Star Wars: The Old Republic.  It’s an MMORPG (Mass MultiPlayer Role Playing Game).  If any of you know me well, you would know, I am not normally a fan of MORPGs; however, after testing this game in beta, I am very excited to play it.  Yes it’s an MMO, but it also is very storyline driven, which makes for a very exciting single player experience.  I am also taking the week before Christmas off in order to enjoy gaming (as well as other recreation) with my brother and family.  It is going to be a great time to relax and game.  Speaking of games, me and my new roommate, as well as some other, started, yet again, to play through the game Amnesia: The Dark Descent.  I would have to say this is the scariest game out there.  If you have not heard of this game, and doubt it’s scariness, search play-throughs on youtube, and I’m sure you will find it will turn the manliest gamer into a screaming wuss.  As a group we decided to go through the game, as none of us are brave enough to go through it alone.  Even while we were all hudled around a big-screen TV, surrounded by speakers, we found ourselves jumping, and screaming at every possible sighting of “The Shadow”.  We will hopefully be finishing the game on Friday, which is a feat in itself.

Well that’s all I can think of to put in this update.  If you read this, and wish I’d update more frequently, message me on facebook, G+, or tweet me and let me know.  I am always happy to know that my updates are being read, and people enjoy knowing what’s going on in my life.

Riverboat Days

So this past week has been insanely busy; filled with work, meetings, and long band practices. But now that it is all over, I would have to say it was worth it.

Monday was when business started, as having work, and meetings, or something else planned for every evening during the week.  Saturday was a great day.  I slept in, listened to music in the park, went hiking, hung out at the lake, watched fireworks, and practiced.  The hike was amazing.  We went up to the Extu Falls.  My friend, Levi, made a trail earlier this year and found out that you can also hike up to the top of the falls, right behind where the water pours off the cliff.  After a long gruelling hike up rock slides, moss covered cliffs, drenched bushes and grass, we finally made it to the top.  It was amazing, and I think we might just go up there again very soon.

The most tiring days were Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, as we had to practice for our performance in George Little park on Sunday, and since at least 1 band member worked till 10 each night, our practices started at 9:30pm at the earliest, running till 2am at the latest, just to get our set sounding perfect.  They were long and hard practices, learning 3 new songs, and once we learnt them, perfecting them along with the other 3 we were going to play.  The practice paid off when Sunday rolled around, and we felt ready to take the stage, and play a high energy set to get people excited.  It was great that the sun briefly came out during our set, and it went great.  Anyone that was there can let you know that it was a lot of fun.  I know some songs were filmed, and I’ll try and get those online soon.

Teen Camp 2011 and Fishing

Hello all.  So this past week has been a lot of fun.  I went fishing a couple times, as well as there was the Lakelse Pentecostal Teen Camp.  I went out to Ferry Island a couple mornings.  I didn’t catch any fish, but it was good to get up early and amazing to be able to see a sunrise.  Every time I get up early, it reminds me why I love this place so much.  It just looks amazing.

Teen Camp this year was amazing.  I was only there in the evenings, mainly for the services, but from what I saw it was amazing.  Blake Holenstein, the new assistant pastor at Terrace Pentecostal Assembly, spoke for the week, and the main theme was “Ignite”.  The band who played consisted of local people, lead by my brother Mykee Laird.  They did an amazing job at playing, which they also wrote a song for the week.

This year instead of having our friend Dan Donkers from Summit Pacific Bible College, Darin Graham came.  He was great, and even know about our inside jokes.  I don’t know how much time Darin spent preparing with Dan, learning about our jokes, and our camp, but he did a great job.  Darin started off each evening service with at least one game, team score updates, announcements, and the odd interview.  The games were mainly based off the TV series Minute To Win-It, with our own LPC twist.

The worship was amazing, as well as the speaking.  It was a great week for everyone involved, and I know the kids got a lot out of it.  At the end of the week they had a talent show, which I got to be involved in.  The ministry team played “Jesus Is A Friend Of Mine” by Sonseed and did amazing.

Over all, the week was very productive and a lot of fun.  This is just the beginning of summer, and I’m stoked to see what else comes.

Weekend Activities

So the sun was out this weekend! It was a great time for a LAN party! Me and a couple people had planned a LAN party for Saturday, back when the weather wasn’t so nice, and the forecast predicted rain. Well the rain didn’t come, but we still had the LAN party. We had about 14 people over the whole day/night, and played a bunch of games. It was a lot of fun, with good food, and great competition. Sunday I helped setup for our church’s Teen Camp. It’s gonna be pretty good. The chapel setup is great, and sounds pretty good for that old chapel. If you don’t have anything to do in the evenings this week, and you’re in the Terrace area, you should come to a service. You can find driving directions here: Driving directions from Terrace

I will be posting some pics, and videos on here later in the week.

Also another quick note. I am getting a small video camera for my truck, so I can record any animal encounters I have while on my way to and from work. Once I get it, and have it setup, I will start posting some vids here.

Webpage Ideas

So, as I work on this page, I am reminded how non-creative I am when it comes to design, and anything “artsy”.  I have tried thinking of header images I’d want to use, but have no ideas.  I know I’d like to post more pictures and videos, and those will come as the summer, and time progresses, but for the rest of the content I am not quite sure.  Maybe I’ll just go steal ideas from other websites, and use those.

Well I am staying busy with work, and trying to get settled back into the routine of life after a nice holiday to Australia.  It was amazingly fun, and didn’t go exactly how I’d planned, but it was still great.  I stayed in Newcastle at the YWAM base there, as I knew some people from there, and we had a great time.  I was supposed to meet my brother there, but because of the volcano that erupted in Chile, he couldn’t fly back to Australia after his time in Brazil.  That sucked, but I still got to see old friends, and make a lot of new ones.  It was over all a really good time.

New Webpage

So, I have decided to start a website.  This is mainly based off the fact that I was recently in Australia, and saw a bunch of people using personal websites, in addition to twitter, facebook, and other social medias to keep in contact with people around the globe.  I will try and keep it as up to date as possible, but there are no promises.

I have comments disabled on this website.  If you would like to comment on a post, please just message me on facebook, twitter, or google+, and I will get back to you ASAP.
